Cannibalistic Infancy - Dominant Inhumanity - 2013 Soulflesh Collector Records

Artwork- Marco Hasmann

"Dominant Inhumanity" boasts such an immense improvement in recording and production since Cannibalistic Infancy’s 2009 EP “Decomposition of Materiality”, you may think it's a different band entirely.  Words that come to mind with their new sound are thick, beefy and pounding.  Everything is mixed in really well for an incredibly hard-hitting brutal slamming death metal record.  Right from the beginning, the re-recorded “Urethral Decaying” proves the band is back and is much better.  The vocalist, Artyom Pavlenko, does an amazing job of mixing in a few different styles of airy gutturals.  He makes it obvious that he has an extensive range at his disposal, but does not overuse different styles.  "Urethral Decaying" is the only song on this full length that also appeared on the band's 2009 EP.  The last minute of this song is one big, fat, slow slam.  Come to think of it, one big, fat, slow slam could describe the majority of this record.

Yes, "Dominant Inhumanity" is generously peppered with brutal, head bobbing slams, but what else is here?  Of course, you've got your quicker, catchy guitar riffs, blast beats, and cute little drum fills.  All of these elements are key to a great record in this genre of music, but what else is needed?  That secret ingredient, the one that cannot be put into words.  It's more of a feeling.  What classics are made of.  Just that feeling or vibe that makes you keep coming back for more.  That is what is missing here.
"Dominant Inhumanity" is a good album, there just aren't many memorable moments.  It's all been done before.  I admit, it is incredibly heavy.  Barbarically Brutal.  Unforgivingly Ugly.  It has been well received and Cannibalistic Infancy are definitely a force to be reckoned with, I just think they could do better to push the boundaries.

Let me talk a little more about what saves this record from the endlessly growing sea of generic bullshit in todays Brutal Death Metal scene.  The tones of the tunes!  The guitars on here are so powerful.  Think Coprocephalic meets Kraanium, and then hit yourself in the face with a sledgehammer.  Also, as I touched upon earlier, the vocals really keep all these slams from going stagnant.  However, for me, the bass guitar needs to be turned up!  I hear it rounding out the low ends and keeping things warm, I just wish it were more stand-alone audible.  Between the slow parts, you get tremolo riffs that feel, and work well as transitions.  When all is mixed together, it feels like a dumbed-down Defeated Sanity.
Some of the slower, almost beat down sections on the album remind me of Short Bus Pile Up, more than anything because of the vocals.   I've always thought that on "Repulsive Display of Human Upholstery" Tyler Sharpes, vocalist of Short Bus Pile Up, was among the first to have some super awesome gutturals that were also comprehensible.  There is a fair share of that vocal style going on here.  "Dead Pornstars" is one of my favorite songs, bringing together all the element of the album, along with creative songwriting.

"Dominant Inhumanity" covers 8 songs over 26 minutes.  While it may have a few flaws, it is short, and worth checking out.  For me, it is missing some originality, but, once again, Russia brings home the Brutal Death bacon.

Open Flesh Wound - Vile Putrefaction - 2024

Open Flesh Wound
are a 4-piece Slamming Brutal Death Metal outfit from York, Pennsylvania.

The band's new full-length, "Vile Putrefaction" is blasting, knuckle-dragging, thick, slimy slams, with
many parts of Death Metal sprinkled in the mix.  Every instrument gets to shine here, in different ways on each track.  The vocalist employs nearly every guttural technique, with the ease of an ironic, gurgley burp.
The songwriting is refreshing; knowing when to be simple, but at times flexing a more technical approach, one thing you won't be is bored!

Released June 28, 2024

Written, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Open Flesh Wound
Aidan Halfpap - Vocals
David Thomas - Guitar
Josh Carpenter - Drums
Tristan Messner - Bass

Guest vocals on "Catheter Strangulation" by Logan Schmall of Gangrenous Flesh Consumption

Some bands just seem to have that thing.  From the artwork, merch, writing, and just how everything flows together in their own original style, Open Flesh Wound are one of those bands.  I am beyond excited to watch them keep going!!!

Pestilectomy Interview 2024

I am honored and excited to bring you some Q and A with the one-and-only Pestilectomy.
They had one of 2022's best slam records with "From Vulnerable To Funeral" and just dropped a brand new insane EP on RealityFade.  If you don't know this band, you are fucking up.  Enjoy the interview below!

Thank you so much for taking to time to do this! Can we just start with who we are speaking

to and your role in the band? And of course anything about you!

Dustin: I’m Dustin and do guitars/bass and

songwriting

Len: I'm Len, I perform the vocalizations

Felix: I play drums

As soon as I was able to listen to "Soundtrack To An Embalming Room" the entire way

through, I knew I had to talk to you guys. The EP is bursting at its disgusting seams with

unique riffs and slams and song structures that take us on a ride.  I love it!

I am admittedly a newer fan, and I wasn't familiar with any of the band's back catalogue. I

have since familiarized myself and, I'm sure, my neighbors. For our readers who may be

discovering you now, could you talk a little about where it all started and how we ended up

here? Was the name always Pestilectomy? What does that mean? How did you all meet?

How would you try and sum up the last 7 or so years? Tell us anything!

Len: Name was originally Pestilent, but like some crazy shit happened with all that. It's a weird story. I don't know how that name got chosen because I wasn't a member when Pestilent was founded.
I got on board for vocals because the original singer died in a motorcycle crash.
We did a EP and album with that name, then later we got threatened with legal bullshit by someone who owned a clothing brand or something called Pestilent who even harassed our fans so we just decided to change the name to Pestilectomy so we could sell merch again andavoid being sued. A lot of people see our name and think "the fuck? another -ectomy band??"but they're unaware that the name is basically a joke. We just took the old name and suffixed it with "ectomy" for the trope. Some fans have come up with their own interpretations of what "pestilectomy" as a word means but to us it doesn't mean anything. Just sounds cool.

Where would you rate "Soundtrack To An Embalming Room" among your other releases? Has each one surpassed the last?

How has this recent EP been received by your fans?

Dustin: Definitely our most thought through material to date

Len: Best we've ever done. Cool to see the reactions

Alongside the amazing chops on your guitarist and drummer, these vocals straight up melt my

face. So many different sounds and all disgusting! Len, how long have you been at it? Did

you or do you practice a lot or does this just kinda come natural and you mess around with it?

Len: I started the vocals thing when I was like 15, I just remember first hearing bands like

Cradle of Filth or Job for a Cowboy back then and I became I utterly obsessed with how the

human voice can sound so inhuman so I knew I had to find out how to do that somehow. I'm

almost entirely self taught, nobody ever tutored me and YouTube tutorials didn't really help

either.

How about Dustin and Felix? How long have you each been at it? Have there been other bands?

Dustin: I’ve been playing guitar on and off since 2011 but really started digging into it around 2018ish.   I had several other projects but the most noteworthy would be my deathcore project “Cogitations” that also released its debut album earlier this year

Felix: I started paying drum in the age of 14 and open my first band a few months after.  My

first group was a metalcore project called „Maleachi“.

We released 2 EPs and played some gigs. Things starting to get more serious, when a friend and me founded the deathcore

unit "I Watched Myself Sleep".

After releasing a bonecrushing LP I joined slamdown titans

"Chamber of Malice" and toured different countries around the globe.

 We played a backyard

show in Las Vegas where I met Len, and from that I joined Pestilectomy in 2018.

How has working with Reality Fade been? What other labels have you worked with?

Len: Amputated Vein reissued our EP from when we were Pestilent. Masakatsu is such a

wonderful person, but we haven't spoke in years.

Dustin: Working with RealityFade has been nothing but an awesome experience

with both Pestilectomy and my other project. Dimitri handles stuff as professional as it can be

How would you describe Pestilectomy's fan-base?

Dustin: Weird, like us.

What did you guys grow up listening to?

Dustin: I grew up listening to the metal stuff my parents listened to. Basically early Metallica,

Slayer, Rammstein which eventually got me into Slipknot and Death Metal like Cannibal

Corpse, Six Feet Under etc when I was like 11ish. The rest is history haha

Len: When I was in middle school I liked a lot of rap that was popular at the time like Lil Wayne

and DJ Khaled. Also, alternative music like Flobots, Apocalyptica, 30 Seconds to Mars. At

some point I found Slipknot thanks to MTV2, and I just found more brutal stuff from there. My

family doesn't listen to extreme metal so I never got into it from them

When it's not brutal extreme music, what are you listening to these days?

Dustin: For me its all across the board like US hip hop/trap, cheesy power metal like

Dragonforce, Rhapsody etc, black metal all the way to Japanese music like vkei, j-goth/rock,

some Eurobeat and all that other weeb shit ha ha. As long as it’s catchy, I dig it

Len:

I've been a fan of soundcloud rap like Bones or Bladee and the like for over a decade.

Currently I'm obsessed with Playboi Carti and everyone else a part of Opium.

In fact Carti's Whole Lotta Red record that we paid homage to via making that album art into a Pestilectomy shirt was my idea.

!!PRE-ORDER HERE!!

I do like a lot of lofi indie rock/emo stuff too like Teen Suicide and Elliott.

Also lately i've been loving witch house such as Salem and White Ring, I kind of want to start a

lofi witch house project because it's just so flame.  I'm not even an electronic music sort of

person but the atmosphere of the genre is

impeccable, if not black metal-reminiscent even.

Just this month I visited Louisiana so I took an addiction to sludge metal back home with me;

I'm so hooked on Acid Bath and Iron Monkey right now.

What are your hobbies/favorite things to do?

Len: hang out with homies, play old PlayStation 2 games in my shed, shoot some pool, make

money.

Dustin: Being goofy with friends, making music/practicing guitar, hitting the gym and some

video games, mostly oldschool RuneScape atm haha

Can you tell us the story of how you came up with the title "Soundtrack To An Embalming

Room"?

Len: I just randomly come up with titles that sound fire and I keep them in my notes.

Sometimes it'll be many months or years til they get used

Who did the artwork?

Dustin: Aziz @BLCXSTRY.ART (@aziz_blcxstry)

Can you tell us a little about the writing and recording process for Pestilectomy?

Dustin: I mostly start with demoing random riff ideas along with basic drums, sometimes

more sometimes less in one session.  Eventually some of these get scrapped or reworked

and put together, the drums get more detail to form the song how I imagine it.  When the

song base is done it gets sent over to Felix who revises the drums.  When the revised

drums are done I sometimes do some fine-tuning to some sections/riffs or add another

idea that fits Felix drums ideas.  When the instrumental is done we send it over to Lennon

who records vocals over it.

What can we expect from Pestilectomy in the near future?

Dustin; Hopefully get STAER on vinyl, and some visuals. As well as promo for our 2 cover

songs we released on our “Ministry of Molested Necrophiles” single in 2020!

Who are some bands you guys really take influence from?

Felix: I started to play drums because of Slipknot. Rings of Saturn influenced my playing style

back in 2017

Len: for gutturals the Japanese band Disconformity has always been my main inspiration, but

for this new EP I also did a new scream style that was very inspired by Embalmer, Cryptopsy

and especially Damonacy.

Dustin: When songwriting I write what I personally dig and that’s a combination of the stuff I grew to love over the past 15+ years so it’s hard to pinpoint specific bands for me

Can you name any up-and-coming bands that we should check out?

Len: I'm not a huge fan of newer bands, at least not in the slam genre these days, but Insect

Inside and Torture are exceptions. They're both so flame.

Dustin: For slam “Axiomatic Dematerialization” and “Ungraceful” come to mind first

Both put out some bangers in 2023/2024

Man thank you guys again so much for doing this! Thank you also for the amazing music! I

hope it keeps coming!!

Excruciations Interview 2024

Cerebral Reviewment long-time readers will know, old school style BDM, like the latest from Kansas City one-man Brodequin worship project, Excruciations, is right up my alley.  The riffs, the vocals, the imagery.  Hell yes.  Thank you Simon!

Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions!  Can you start by telling us your age and a little background about yourself?

Thanks for hitting me up for an interview!! I'm Simon, 20 years old and lived in Kansas city damn near my entire life. been obsessed with this whole realm of disgusting music since high school and its been uphill (or downhill, depending on how you look at it) ever since.

You have two projects that are just you, Defaced and Excruciations, correct?  Have you always enjoyed working alone?  have you played with a full band before?

I've actually got a pretty ridiculous amount of projects haha, but defaced and excruciations are definitely my favorites. some others of mine are lymphoblast, pig stomper, ejaculation, scum, and my most recent musical endeavors , Butcher (ultra raw brutal death with all real instruments) and Portrait of God (which is a real deal band I play drums for , really really fun stuff).

but yeah I love working alone! sometimes working with other people on music can be really frustrating so I've always loved being able to just be like "well yall ain't workin out too well so I'll just prolly go do something on my own" without really having to sweat it lol.

This EP has a raw, unpolished feel.  Real old school feel right down to the pacing of the riffs and the wonderful gutturals.  You call this project "Brodequin worship" and I also see a Disgorge cover on here.  What other influences, music or otherwise, do you have?

oh man, there's such an endless amount of things I've drawn inspiration from for music , I'll try my best to break it down so this isn't a 40 paragraph answer haha.

the biggest ones for Excruciations are most definitely Brodequin and Disgorge, the upcoming EP is TO THE BONE Brodequin worship especially, someone described the debut as "if brodequin
moved to Kansas city" and just imagine that but cranked past 10. shit, imagine the knob broke.

I'm also endlessly inspired by my friends and loved ones who all pursue their own passions, seeing someone else thrive with what they love doing is an incredible driving force for me.

I love the classic medieval artwork!  Who did it?

I won't lie, I'm one of those nerds who obsesses over medieval torture art and the like, so when it came time to release the EP, it was just the one I gravitated toward.

Looks like you have a debut full-length album coming soon!!!!  What can you tell us about "Putrification Through Torture"?  Same style?  Same production?

its definitely a big step up in my eyes! everything i loved while making the EP is all present in PTT, while honing it all to a massive extent. some of the absolute nastiest riffs I've ever written are on here , alongside some of my best vocals. there's actually a couple spots where I had to vomit after a vocal take because I biffed something, but ended up loving how it sounded haha.

What else can we expect in the near future?  Live shows?  New merch?

merch for sure !!! I would absolutely love to do shows someday, and even had a conversation with a couple people in KC who offered to play as Excruciations, but it unfortunately never came to fruition. but someday ! there will be at least ONE Excruciations show.

How did you pick the name "Excruciations"?

it's just a badass sounding word! very intense and ugly.

Can you name 3 bands that you take influence from?

I think the 3 bands who influenced me the most overall are probably Circle of Dead Children, with their extremely frenetic energy throughout their music, esoteric feeling passages where they show they're not afraid to use harsh noise or create an intense soundscape, just everything about them!

next would definitely be Suffocation, I've always been utterly infatuated by Terrance Hobbs'
playing, and how the tabs themselves are almost an art form when you really look at them.

finally, without any shadow of a doubt is Mortal Decay. the demos,  sickening erotic fanaticism, forensic and everything after really made me push my songwriting to its limits, especially when I was starting out. groovy, gory mayhem with melodies strewn throughout and horrifying frog vocals, they've just always checked every box for me.

Can you name a few upcoming bands from your area that we should check out?

BILLY!! 100% BILLY. some of the sickest and coolest dudes I've ever met, and they just dropped their second EP, Control Burn, which is a MUST LISTEN if you can get down with hardcore and hammer swinging riffs.

Strzyyga is also very very good, I've had the honor of ripping with these dudes and they're no fuckin joke. grinding, war-like absolute mayhem. they're about to drop their first EP too!

lastly I wanna mention Tombseeker. holy shit Tombseeker. they're some straight up, no bullshit death metal, and everytime I've seen them they've had such a control over the entire room it's impossible to ignore.

Thanks again!  Anything at all you would like to say to our readers?

KEEP MAKING MUSIC. Don't let yourself get bogged down by not being big on what you write. the first 5 or 6 months I was writing my solo stuff, it was all TERRIBLE! I'd be ashamed to hear it now. Keep on grinding that axe and before you know it you'll be pumping out some seriously sick shit.

Carniceria Interview 2024

It is a little bit crazy how much music these dudes pump out, especially at 16 years old!  Quality shit too!  Definitely will be paying attention to Carniceria and their side projects in the coming years!  Learn more below!

:

Thank you so much for taking to time to do this!  The band is only two people?!?!  I did not expect that from the big beefy sound you guys have.  Who are we speaking with?  What is your role in Carniceria?

Im Dan, I record/play all the instruments (guitar, bass, drums, backing vox) and I also mix and master (overall production - GROTESCA PRODUCTIONS). I basically do everything since this used to be a one man project. However, live I only play guitar.

How old are you guys?

We are all 16 - 17 years old.

What are your guys main jobs?

I can't speak for my other members but at the moment I don't have a job, and I believe they don't have jobs either.

I hear bits of Boltcutter, Peelingflesh, Cerebral Incubation, etc...  Are these accurate influences for you?  Who am I missing?

The references are definitely accurate, but I definitely take major inspiration from Embryectomy as well.

Can you speak a little on the songwriting process for you and then the recording process as-well?

Believe it or not, all of the Carniceria tracks were recorded using an irig los interface, and garageband on my iphone haha, I also do all the mixing and mastering on garageband ios.

"Skante Fueled Massacre" feels more like a full length effort (even though it is 15 minutes).  It is well rounded, well written, and has 4 features.  I know it is listed as an EP.  Is there a full length on the way from Carniceria?

There is definitely a full length on the way and i hope to have genuine artwork for our next release!

What is the story behind the cover art / picture on SFM?

The picture comes from a movie that I honestly don't remember the name of haha, there's not much story to the cover other than the fact that I feel like it matched the name "Skante Fueled Massacre".

Tell us a little about Pest Control Records.  How did working with them come about?

Pest Control Records is an upcoming label from Long Beach, California. I submitted my demo to them around a year ago and they took me and ever since, we have grown together. Very cool and chill dude.

How did the name Carniceria come about?

Carniceria is spanish for "Butchery" and in my opinion, that's brutal as fuck, but it's also partly the fact that we are proud of our Chicano culture, so i chose a name in spanish !

How do you go about finding and choosing samples that you use?

Most of the samples where chosen by our vocalist Dagoh. We try to find stuff that is relatable to the song, either literally or in a joking manner, it's simply for fun.

What are some of your favorite things to do, outside of music?

If i'm being honest, music is my main hobby, I don't really do much out of that haha, I play multiple genres and I just love music all around. I know my vocalist Dagoh loves skating and he is really good at it. I'm unsure of my drummer Leo but from what I've seen, he likes doing a lot of art things like making flyers or collages or even making patches.

Can you name a few upcoming bands that we should check out?

Split the Fuck Open, Hematopoietic, Deepthroat Defecation, Gruesome End, Intercranialectomy, Desecrated Extinction

What is something about you that fans of your music would be surprised to learn?

Me and my drummer leo are in a shit ton of bands, but i'd say Carniceria is definitely my main act.

How did you guys get into this kind of music?  And what other music are you fans of?

Growing up in a religious mexican family, listening to any heavy music was seen as bad, but ever since I was young I was exposed to bands like System of A Down, Snot, Slipknot and bands alike, I've always loved brutal music, and I quickly discovered brutal death metal and I fell in love with it, ever since, it's basically the main genre I listen to and play.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer a few questions!  Anything else you'd like to say?
