Tomb of Scabs - Glacial Residue - 2025

Tomb of Scabs describes their music as Antediluvian Slam.

Antediluvian - of or belonging to the time before the biblical Flood.

Tomb - a large vault, typically an underground one, for burying the dead.

Scab - a dry, rough protective crust that forms over a cut or wound during healing.

    Maybe you already knew all the words, but to actually read the definitions and be reminded of the push-and-pull that can come between the beautiful and hideous, only helps to set the scene before "Glacial Residue" throws a wrench in what you thought you understood.

Glacial Residue is the newest EP, released October 20th, 2025 via Sewage Nation, from 2-man international slammers Tomb of Scabs, comprised of Rory Kennedy and Azerate Nakamura.

"Glacial Residue" is experimental, atmospheric, odd, and catchy.  Most of all, it oozes confidence and vulnerability; in a sub-genre where everyone feels the need to over-exploit the shock factor and nastiness of everything, Tomb of Scabs' last EP, "This Broken Earth" as well as "Glacial Residue" stand alone as atmospheric Slamming Brutal Death that really does bend the rules.  Some of the riffs would be annoyingly simple all by themselves, yet they haven't added all that much, and they are in a mysterious pocket of brutal catchiness that works rather well.  Azerate's vocals could 100% be described as nasty or gross, like he is somehow vomiting up his own feces. His range and diversity compliments Rory's riffs, and almost ghostly sounding solos over said riffage. Dave of Bloodcrusher and Enzo of Misanthrope also make appearances on this EP, which is around 15 minutes of brutal, emotional, and beautifully written stuff.  I am a fan, and you'd be crazy not to check this release out!

BLOODCRUSHER - Aberrant Hypermorph - 2025

 

BloodCrusher is back, heavier than before.  This 45 minute slab of crushing Death Metal leaves you completely beaten to a pulp.  It is atmospheric, melodic, death core, slamming, and at times blackened. 

In true BloodCrusher fashion, the riffage is there. The songwriting is there. The production is fucking there. Dave has also brought his vocals to the next level, with deeper, animalistic growls and demonic highs that I was worried I would tire of.  I did not.  Everything is put together in perfect moderation, helping this to come across as a rather prolific album. 

Too many times in this extreme genre people reach too far and try too hard to be extreme or brutal and it just becomes cringe.  Not here. Aberrant Hypermorph is everything you need to be launched to another planet, only the space shuttle is drenched in slime and rotten flesh, only sliding off when the Deathvessel lands on the burning planet that will soon engulf you completely.  

Ok, I was trying to be cool and inspired.  Looking at the cover art and some song names while I listen to this, but seriously, this release is chock-full of brutal tidbits and surprises. The guitar feels thick and crunchy, bass tone is on fire, vocals are a full range of what the genre offers, and of course you get some wonderful bass drops for your speakers to shake.  With songs that range from bouncy chug-chugs to more technical shred-fests, I can't imagine what he will come up with next!

Let's also keep in mind, BloodCrusher's very first release was in 2024. This is the 3rd full-length and about the 20th release!  Some EPs and Splits.  Always something coming out.  So, if this album isn't quite your cup of tea, I bet you can find something you vibe with over at the BLOODCRUSHER BANDCAMP!
