Disarticulating Extinguishment - Psalms of Wrath - 2011 - Imbecil Entertainment

Disarticulating Extinguishment was a Brutal Death band out of Russia.  This E.P. showcases their unique approach to bringing creativity into their songwriting. Some is very good, some is not.  Their name though, roughly translating to ‘putting an end to something by separating bones’, is awesome.  The parts of this album that are not as good are still good, it’s just that there is some really great stuff on here, so I am being picky.  This was an underrated release from a band that I wish would've done more for us to hear!

'Righteous Prosecutor' is a short track with very creative drums and some low tones and harmonics accompany us to a very bad ending.   It just seems to quickly fade away and end with a sample that I cannot understand.
'Noisome Pestilence' starts with a cool bass line and very mechanical sounding drums.  Slow riffs pound forward with lower harmonics than I am used to hearing, which is good.  This track is very consistent/almost boring until a weird clean guitar break leading into a slow, chugging, bouncy groove over saturated with vocals.

Lev Kurgansky : Drums

Anton Karavaev : Guitars

Vlad Melnik : Guitars

Nika Clitoridectomy : Vocals

Kirill Issakov : Vocals

"Heathens’ Foredoom" opens with what I will call underwater demon vocals and more of that signature robotic drum sound that I am really enjoying.  The rest of "Heathens’ Foredoom" is a lot of relatively simple brutal slams made to sound awesome by super creative drummer Lev Kurgansky, who also is the drummer Ezophagothomia, so it comes as no surprise this has superb drumming.
'Estranged From The Womb' is a more straightforward mix of old school death metal riffing and brutal slams.  This track contains the best vocals.  Throughout this album I would say there is too much vocals in the mix, which is a shame because they are very good vocals.  Know when to rest!  It is also worth mentioning that the two vocalists of this group compliment each others style very nicely, just too often.
"Indurate Laceration" is, I believe, my favorite part of ‘Psalms of Wrath’.   It is unwavering brutality and over the top non-sense.

To wrap things up we have the title track, which, after I eventually made it through, fit as a nice way to end this weird album.   Noise layered with haunting noise, then a still haunting guitar part that is soon ran out by more weird noises.
Very pleasant ambient ending reminiscent of what I imagine you may hear while drifting off to sleep on a deserted island’s beach.  In fact, I highly recommend lying down for a nap during the last three minutes of this!

Exfeciate Interview 2025

The BDM world will be blessed on March 7th.  Yes, folks, we are a mere 3 weeks away from a brand new full-length release from one-man German machine Exfeciate.
I have been lucky enough to have been spinning the new album, gorgeously titled "Enthroned In Desiccation" for the past couple of weeks, and I can say with certainty that you will not be disappointed.  Slams, chugs, grind, gurgles, interesting tempos and rhythms, it's all here.  Make sure to follow Exfeciate so you will catch this release when it's out!  Cerebral Reviewment will be sharing the fuck out of it also!!!!
Enjoy the brief interview below:

CEREBRAL REVIEWMENT:

Who is Exfeciate?

PARWEZ:

Just me, Parwez, a one-man brutal death unit from Germany. I write, record and mix everything. My neighbors hate me.

What is the history of Exfeciate?

I used to write riffs and record countless ideas but never bothered to finish a song. Then, in late 2023, I figured I might as well make it official and start ruining eardrums. Since then, I’ve been diving deep into recording and production—learning as I go and finding the sound I'm looking for along the way.

What other bands are you a part of?

None. However, I played guitar for Endometritis over a decade ago and  dabbled in different genres for a while. My legendary former bandmates Rafael (now Figging, Theatre's Kiss) and Andree (now Verachtung, Genital Mutilation, ex-Stillbirth) have supported me a lot in realizing Exfeciate.

How did you first get into this kind of music?

It all started when a friend sent me a YouTube video of the German classic "Cock and Ball Torture - Aphrodisianius" when I was about 15 years old. I didn’t even know music like that existed. From there, I dove into the MySpace rabbit hole, constantly searching for more underground sound.

I am beyond pumped for the new full-length to come out!  Can you share a little about the writing of "Enthroned in Desiccation " and the concept behind the album?

Thanks! I started writing ‘Enthroned in Desiccation’ in August 2024. After my last releases, which were mostly thrown together within a couple of weeks with me locking myself in a room, I wanted to change my approach. This time, I really took my time with the writing process and tried to focus on crafting something more cohesive.

‘Enthroned in Desiccation’ tells the tale of a dark emperor ruling over a fallen civilization. Obsessed with immortality, he uses a grotesque mix of ancient bones and machinery to transcend death, resurrecting the deceased and merging flesh with machine. His empire is empty, but through these rituals, he expands his cult and achieves a twisted form of enlightenment.

Who did the artwork?

The art itself is made by Fear Of Napalm. My brother Hudana put it all together and is currently in the process of creating the design for my physical release.

Can you recommend any up and coming bands from your area?

You should definitely stay tuned for the upcoming  'Figging' album. Finest vomit blasting deathgrind

Who are some artists that have inspired you that may surprise people?

Apart from Yoko Ono, whose avantgarde screeching is basically proto-pig squeals, I’d say Balkan music has some seriously intricate rhythms, especially with all the odd time signatures and unpredictable syncopation.

In fact, I actually used a Balkan-inspired tune as the outro for the first track—it adds a wild, unexpected twist to the brutality.

Thanks so much for doing this!

Anything to say to fans?

Thank you so much for the support! It truly means the world to me as fans and reviewers like you are the ones who keep the underground spirit alive and thriving.

Much love from Germany!

Greetings

Parwez

Ed Morris Interview (Vacant Moley, Dripping, Bloodtied) 2025

"Vacant Moley is a one-man Atmospheric Slamming Hypergrind project by Ed Morris, of bands Dripping and Bloodtied. The project serves as a boundary-less musical outlet, open to ambiguity."

I was lucky enough to have Ed answer some questions!  Enjoy the below interview, where we focus on his solo project, Vacant Moley, but touch on other things as-well!

---------------------------------------------------------------

CEREBRAL REVIEWMENT:

Hello!  Thanks for taking some time to answer some questions!  Lets start with who Vacant Moley is?  I understand you do all of the instruments?   What can you tell us about yourself?

ED MORRIS (VACANT MOLEY, DRIPPING, BLOODTIED):

Hey, super honored to be on Cerebral Reviewment! Thank you so much. I'll begin with my name and background. My name is Ed Morris and I live in South Florida where I play guitar in my two other bands. 18 years old at the moment but 19 later this month.

Why the name "Vacant Moley"?

The name "Vacant Moley" came from my dog. Her name is Moley and she's all over the cover art
on the demo EP.
"Vacant" was just a random word that popped into my head. The two words together sounded weird and rolled off the tongue well, so I felt it suited the vision for the project.
Even while my vision for Vacant Moley shifted upon the making of the album, the name still does it justice.

The new full-length, The Programmed Obsolescence of Your Kind has a little bit of just about every kind of music!  Is there a concept behind the album?  What or who are some of the influences?
Do you need to get into a certain creative state to write music like this?  How do you get there?

There is really no main concept for The Programmed Obsolescence of Your Kind.
The intended themes touch upon a lot of different ideas and references, and there are plenty of
easter eggs throughout the album. The themes are scattered and unpredictable which is my exact vision for Vacant Moley as a whole. In the end, making music for this project all comes down to instinct in the moment. I don't have to think very hard. For that reason, when I listen back to the album it's very personal to me because it follows the patterns of my brain. And finally, I have to credit Dripping as a very large inspiration. When I joined Dripping I think I subconsciously calibrated my own "musical psychology" to fit the band's needs, if that makes any sense. Dripping's unique style has more than rubbed off on me in the 2 years I've been in the band, and elements of Dripping's influence can be found throughout the EP and the album.

So what instruments CAN'T you play?!  When did you first get into music, and what is you "main" instrument?

At heart I'm a guitar player. It's been my instrument since I was seven. Even much earlier in my life I was extremely drawn to guitars. I have an easier time with bass because I learned guitar first. Bass is fun because it's super primal to me, at least in the contexts I use it for. But it is a different instrument so you have to treat it differently- with your velocity and dynamics, and how you choose to write with it. Other than guitar and bass, and arguably vocals, I'm useless haha. The drums are always one thousand percent MIDI. As for the other elements in Vacant Moley, such as the synths, samples, and ambience, they come from a wide range of sources. The synths were done in Garageband for Unencrypted Desires and the intro for Cranial Amputee. The samples were pulled mostly from open source sound libraries and video games. Ambience came from applying heavy effects to mp3 files of things like factory noise, rainfall, cheering crowds, and weird spacey stuff like audio recorded from black holes. Creating and placing ambience around the album was super tedious work.

What other bands or projects are you in?

Outside of Vacant Moley I do guitar and backing vocals for Dripping and Bloodtied. We're working on new material in both bands and we're super excited for people to hear what we have in store for 2025. With Bloodtied, we're just about to be wrapping up the writing stage of our debut album. All I can say is definitely keep an eye out for when it drops, the five of us created something very, very special together.

What are the pros and cons of being a one-man-band?

A couple things immediately come to mind regarding the pros of being a one-man-band. First of all you're on your own time. You can't show up late to your own DAW, so I think that's pretty neat. You're also in full control of your product, which is an enormous breath of fresh air when you're writing alongside multiple people in multiple bands. It's nice being the only cook in the kitchen. You can really hone in on your craft and perfectly capture all of your musical ambitions. However, both of those benefits have their inevitable, negative counterparts. Being on your own time opens a Pandora's box full of distractions. For instance, it's way too easy to go from trying to finish a song to fiddling with an EQ plugin. During the recording of the album I went through an infinite number of "final mixes" before the tracks were even halfway recorded. Being the only writer you can get stuck too. It's a little different with Vacant Moley because almost anything goes, but if you're trying to write an impactful, well structured song in any conventional genre of music, it's hard to do that without at least a second opinion. You also have to rely on your own validation, which sounds funny but it's something people overlook. When you're writing by yourself you can only guide yourself, and sometimes you'll end up scrapping something really cool because of ear fatigue.

So the demo artwork was heavily inspired by your dog, what about the full-length art, the purple with code, digital feel.  and did you create the VM Logo?

The artwork was made by layering and distorting many different images together. Moley is hidden somewhere in there too. When you layer and distort images over and over again you reach a point where the art essentially creates itself. The binary code was a last minute idea because the art was screaming for it. The code doesn’t say or mean anything. My good friend Haley created the logo, she's an awesome artist.

Will Bloodtied be going on a tour to support that record when it comes out?

Nothing is set in stone yet but it's definitely a goal of ours to get out there following the album. We'll just have to see where the album takes us.

It really sounds like you MUST have a pretty diverse taste in music.  What are some bands or music you are into that may surprise us?

Compared to others I don't consider myself to have the most diverse taste in music. I mostly stay within the realms of melodic death metal and brutal death metal, although I have it in me to appreciate almost all kinds of music. I just can't stand screamo or midwest emo. To name a few bands- Intestine Baalism, At The Gates, Sorrow Of Tranquility, Eternal Suffering, Cerebral Effusion, and Regurgitation. It may come as a surprise if I mention I really love bands like Children Of Bodom and Trivium in their earlier days.

Thanks so much Ed!  Anything to say to your fans?

Thank you for having me on here! I also would like to thank all of those who have listened to Vacant Moley, and new material is already in the works.

Putrescent - Infected Blood by Inhuman Practices - 2025 Demo - BrutalMind

This 3-song demo from Chilean Brutal Slammers, Putrescent, is short and sweet.  Walls of fuzzy, thick guitar riffs meet raw, fast, spastic drumming.  It is all tied together by Hugo Ojeda's insane vocal prowess.  This is only a 5 minute listen and it will severely traumatize your ears.  I am still going back and hearing and appreciating different things each time I listen.

My favorite track, "Sodomized" opens with a haunting sample and possibly an exorcism?  Followed up by beefy, chugging slams and relentless mid-paced drumming.  The standout here, again, are the vocals.  Seems to be a layering of Hugo's predators atop his wet nasty gutturals.  Just gorgeous.

ALSO; This demo comes 20 years after the band's last, and with only one same member.  So normally I'd say that 2005's "Bloodletting" demo is not even relevant, but it is still Putrescent and it is a solid chunk of old school death metal, coming in at 23 minutes!  The artwork, song titles, and overall vibe make this one worth checking out, so i'll include it here:

Voracious Contempt Interview 2025

This 5-piece from San Antonio is churning out Brutal Slamming Death that sounds years beyond their age.  Get to know Voracious Contempt!!

CEREBRAL REVIEWMENT -

Hello and thank you so much for taking the time to do this!  Let's start with who we are talking to and what you do in the band?

Could you list the members of Voracious Contempt and their ages?

SAM/WADEN/RICO (Voracious Contempt Drummer and Guitarists) -

Yo! You’re talking to Sam(20, drums) , Waden(20, Guitar) and Ricco (18,  Guitar ) , the rest of our lineup consists of Nate (21, bass) and Adrian ( 17 , Vocals )

As the band name suggests, you guys are big Internal Bleeding fans?  Can you tell us a little bit about how you got into older BDM and what other bands influence your sound?

We got into Brutal death by just going down the down death metal Rabbit Hole , constantly discovering new bands. Suffocation is easily the Main band that turned us onto more brutal music but some of our other favorites are Devourmemt, Dehumanized, Skinless, Repudiation , Mortal Decay , Defeated sanity , Deeds of flesh , and Liturgy

Your new ep "Exquisite Suffering" is my favorite ep in a long time.  It feels like it is straight out of the 90s.  Can you talk a little about your writing process, and how you guys come up with these killer riffs?

When Voracious started , there’s wasn’t anyone doing that 90’s NYDM style and we really wanted to capitalize on that and make something that captured sounds of all our favorite NYDM bands and do it in a more Texas way

When we wrote “Slammed and Screwed” and “Exquisite Suffering” the process was heavily based on just getting together to jam . Now it’s a more of a  joint effort before we even get to jam a song , all contributing riffs and ideas with Waden bringing it all together .

Also the new artwork is amazing!  i've already preordered a package from brutal mind!  who did the artwork?

The artwork was done by Ricky Pile (Pileworm_art) , absolutely nailed the style we were going for.

"Slammed and Screwed" was my introduction to you guys.  Some of sounds and vibes on the song Uncontrollable reminded me old school brutal death, and I fell in love.  It doesn't seem like your sound has drastically changed since the demo.  Would you agree?
We agree 100% , wouldn’t say our sound has changed much at all , We just wanted wanted to take the Slammed and Screwed sound and amplify it as much as possible

what does Eigengrau mean?  That song is the only one where the lyrics are close to a love song <3

Eigengrau is the dark gray or black in the absence of light, the song is about losing a loved one. The metaphor for it is, the gray in a way is your grieving and coping with the loss, and the light is the loved one. Grieving from the absence of your loved one

Thoughts of you reoccur
Long after death
I still remember when you took your last breath

A death i couldnt save you from
Days filled with regret
Soon i will have to learn
The longterm effects
Visions of you still cross my mind
If you were here youd still be mine
Reality of the situation
Is that you still had time

A death you couldn’t save yourself from
Afterlife filled with regret
Soon you will have to learn
An eternal punishment of debt

Why did you have to leave me
Up above you look down on me
Watch as i mourn you helplessly
Watching in silence my suffering
Youll will never truly know
How much i couldve given
Your deaths guilt falls onto me
I will never be forgiven

Why
Now soon i suffer your own doings
My mind
is plagued
with the memory of when you were mine
I cant
change a thing
Wish things couldve stayed the same
All this time
Has passed
Now condemned,You are just a memory of my past

Does the band share lyrical duties?  or is it just one of you?  How seriously is it taken?

Lyrics are handle by Adrian(vocals) mostly however if he needs some help with an idea we are all there to support him. On the song “crawling through delirium” Ricco and Sam helped write the back half , we make sure to take our time lyrical to get something we are all happy with and more importantly Adrian.

Can you name any upcoming bands from your area that we should watch for?

Lots of amazing bands in the Texas scene , we are very fortunate to be in a city and state with so much underrated talent like a Mankind, Endless Decay, Dysmorphia, Primal Descent .

Can you tell us some music that the members of voracious contempt are into that may surprise people?

There’s a lot we listen to that might surprise you, Marvin Gaye , Cindy Lauper , Tribe called quest , David Bowie , Modest Mouse , Journey , Men at Work , Masayoshi Takanaka, Fleetwood Mac , the cranberries to name handful .

Thanks again for answering some questions!  Anything else you'd like to say to your fans?

Thank you for interviewing us , if there’s anything we want to say it’s Thank you , without the support from the people we wouldn’t not be ANYTHING.

CEREBRAL REVIEWMENT

Thanks for taking the time to talk!  Who is Fleshmower?  Where are you guys from?

DUSTIN (Vocals, Drums)

Thanks for having us! Fleshmower is Kevin Muck - Guitar/Bass and myself, Dustin Klimek - Vocals/Drums. We’re from Buffalo, New York.

What other bands have you guys been a part of?

We also play in Morgue Terror.

The new demo is just raw, aggressive, amazing slam after slam.  Can you tell us a little about your writing process?

Thank you! That’s what we aim for. We jam in my basement. Kevin usually has a riff he wants to use and we go from there!

Who did the art for the demo?

Ricky Pile. Classic 2000’s brutal death artist. Love his work. @pileworm_art on Instagram.

You guys have been working a lot with Luke from Seminal Embalmment and 6Mozilla6 for videos and promo stuff, how did that come about?

I saw a promo video he did for Neuropsychosis and thought it looked great. I knew I wanted to work with him when we were ready. Luke is the man and an absolute pleasure to work with!

I also love the new shirt designs!  Who did them? Can fans still get the shirts?

Eko Fitriyanto did the logo and Akbar Indriano altered the video game covers and made everything look sick. They are available on our bandcamp.

Can you tell us some of your influences, musical or other?

We’re both influenced by a wide range of death metal and hardcore from mostly the 90’s and 2000’s. Some of our favorites are Sepultura, Obituary, Guttural Secrete and Inhuman Dissiliency.

Plans for a full length?  Shows?  ANYTHING?!  Please!!

Right now we’re letting the demo ride for a bit and then plan on working on an EP. Shows may be possible, but we have to find 1-2 live musicians. We might have a small batch of physical demos soon and more merch.

Can you tell us anything about Fleshmower that would surprise fans?

We love nu metal.

Again thanks for answering a few questions, and we will be impatiently waiting and watching for more from you guys!!!

Thank you for everything you do and interviewing the best in the underground!

Bubba interview 2025

Death Metal, Melodic Brutal Slam, Blackened Grinding Slamwich.

The sound of Bubba cannot be nailed down.  One thing is for sure, in the days of cookie-cutter, copy-cat, over-saturated and stagnant Slam releases, bands like this are a much overdue refreshing palate cleanser.  Bubba's full length, "Cogwheels Of The Pious Forge" will hit you with a wall of nostalgic, yet somehow brand new, creative song-writing that just may remind you why you came to extreme music in the first place.  Bravo boys, and please do keep it coming!

CEREBRAL REVIEWMENT -   Lets start with who we are talking to and what you do in the band? Who are all members of the band, and how old are you guys?

JAKE PIKLOR (Guitarist) -     Hey, this is Jake from Bubba, I play guitar in the band. Our lineup consists of Jake Piklor (Me), Nico Lavere on vocals, Justin Staska on drums, and we just recruited a new bassist Jacob Bond.

Can you tell us the history of the band and how this all started?

Bubba started as a just-for-fun project to jam out and write songs that we thought were cool and weird. We originally wanted to start with the approach of black metal-ish brutal death metal but it evolved into doing what felt right and not being afraid to experiment. As we were creating these tracks we decided to take it as a serious project and refine our sound.

I've seen you guys labeled as "blasting melodic brutal death", "blackened brutal death" and "grinding slam".  How do you describe Bubba's sound?

Honestly, I couldn't put an exact label on Bubba. The best way I could describe it is by taking what we find inspiring in all the types of music we love and applying it to a death metal-styled concept.

The full length is just fucking bonkers.  So original and refreshing.  I have to assume you guys have crazy diverse taste in music?  What are you guys into, and what bands or artist would you call influences?

We all kinda listen to a little bit of everything. Many different bands and artists inspired the writing behind the album and no band in particular takes the cake on the direct influence but it's a little bit of everything we like. To name a few, I'd say: Iron Maiden, Despondency, Broken Torso, Severed Remains, Vomit Remnants, Cerebral Effusion, and Guttural Secrete.

How did the name Bubba come about?

The name Bubba came from us having a nickname for each other 'Bubba' and just ran with it.

What are the lyrics like, do you guys stick to a certain theme?

We do stick to a certain theme, the whole idea behind the album was that in hard times people seek guidance, meaning, and support in many forms like religion. People look to religion to find comfort in their darkest times but then drift away as life becomes more convenient and forget about what helped them get there.

Who did the artwork for Cogwheels?

Our Vocalist Nico found and edited an open-access historical painting to encapsulate the imagery of our album.

Can you give us your take on the current death metal scene in your area?

There aren't many death metal bands around us at all, it mainly consists of hardcore and deathcore bands. The 2 in the scene that stick out the most are Implosive Disgorgence and Hacksaw.

Can you suggest any upcoming bands for us to check out?

A few upcoming bands to check out are: Impalement from California, they make some super sick brutal death metal. Vacant Moley is a super sick project our brother Ed from Bloodtied/Dripping has been working on a full-length of mind-bending insane brutal death metal that's super unique. Another sick band to check out is New York Style brutal death metal band, Hacksaw from South Florida. Me and Justin just hopped on board this band and it's been awesome.

Any future plans for more new music, shows, merch, or anything coming up you could share?

As of right now, we are working on putting together some shows and getting out there more. There is going to be merch in the near future. In regards to the music, our other band Bloodtied is wrapping up writing our debut LP and will hopefully be getting it recorded soon. Along with that, we have a side project coming up soon called Nidification which is going to be brutal death metal in the realm of Putridity and Goretrade. In regards to Bubba, we are writing more music to potentially release in the late future.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SAY?

Thank you very much for reaching out to us and wanting to interview us! We very much appreciate all the support and feedback we are receiving from everyone!

Gnawing Interview 2025

Ahhhh yes that familiar yet horrible feeling you get when eating your fellow human turns you on! "Abhorrent Nexus of Sexual Cannibalism" was released about a week ago, I think.  I'm not sure, but I have been jamming the EP nonstop, and the days are blending together.  If you want gross, beefy, grindy, slimy slams, then you will love this.  Coming in at just over 10 minutes, there is no excuse to sleep on this release.  You will thank me.  Everything is tight but just loose enough in the groove.  The stand out here for me is the vocals.  Just wonderful, inhuman sounds that are varied and do not get boring.  Luckily, Gnawing vocalist, Taylor, was kind enough to answer some quick questions!

---------------------------------------------------------

CEREBRAL REVIEWMENT - Hello!  Who are we talking to and what is your role in the band?

TAYLOR - Taylor Hoffman, vocalist and founding member of Gnawing.

Can you tell us the origin story of Gnawing?  and who all of the members are?

The idea of Gnawing came to me some time earlier last year “2024”.  It was originally a place for me to show case/practice experimental vocal styles.  However late “2024” I reached out to one of my guitar homies “Manny Cavillo, Hankpeng” and we started to create tracks I believed could be more than just Internet releases.

My good friend Tony Bourne “drummer” joined the team and enlisted the help of his friend Eric Blackcloud “guitar”.  Without giving away all of our upcoming secrets this currently brings us up to date with where we are now in the beginning of 2025.

3- Abhorrent Nexus Of Sexual Cannibalism is fucking amazing!  What can you say about the band's writing process?  It feels refreshingly original!

Thank you so much we are so glad you dig it.

For the instruments on our debut ep I have to give the homie Manny (HATRED6) all the credit. He has been a MASSIVE help and driving force when it comes to helping create the sound for ANSC ep. I usually like to track my vocal takes at home and send them to my good friend Mitchel Morrison (THE RAZOR CRYPT) who then helps me edit the vocal tracks and pick the best takes to use.

Gnawing is blessed to have many talented individuals who are willing to contribute when it comes to creativity. Huge ups to all my boys involved. Love you guys.

Who did the artwork?

Azizblvckstry did the art for the debut ep and another ep we have in the vault. Have always loved his art. Aziz is extremely professional and time efficient.

My good friend Musthafa.8.Kemal did our logo and does all our letter tittle work, big ups to these talented artists.

What does the future look like for you guys?

I am very excited for Gnawing’s future. We have a handful of shows that will be announced soon, and music releases planned through out the year “2025”.

The goal for 2025 is 4 ep releases and a few singles amongst a few other things I’d like to still keep secret.

Thank you Taylor and we can't wait for more Gnawing!

Dave Wolfe (BloodCrusher, Messmer The Impaler, Under The Red Tide)

Dave Wolfe has been creating music most of his life.  With his recent project, BloodCrusher, he is cementing his place in the world of metal music.  He seems to be pumping out music at an alarming rate, but a lot of it is diverse and creative enough to stand on its own.  Please check out the below interview and support via the links at the bottom!

CEREBRAL REVIEWMENT - Dave? May I call you that?

DINGUS - Dave works for me. I’ve also been know to respond to Dingus or Bubby. Whichever you prefer.

Can you start by telling us about YOU!  Describe yourself and describe you music!

I’m a career hermit for the most part.  Father, husband and gear in the economic machine.  I’m 38 and I’ve been creating music in one form or another since I was 15.

Bloodcrusher is a relatively recent project, starting in March of 2024.  It’s pretty much my way of paying respect to the brutal shit I grew up with.  Along with being a much needed creative outlet.

What instrument did you learn first?  Which one did you start practicing most recently?

The first instrument I really took seriously were the drums.  Definitely what made me fall in love with creating music, or at least assisting in the creation.  I picked up guitar and bass pretty quick after, but didn’t really take them as seriously as the drums for quite some time.  Vocals were always something I messed around with, so those kind of evolved alongside everything else.

I think the most recent instrument I’ve learned is the banjo.  There was a point in time that I was doing some acoustic one-man-band stuff, and I ended up getting a mandolin, harmonica and banjo for shits and giggles.  I like to learn, and those were always instruments I enjoyed the sound of in songs, so I figured fuck it.  I’m not very good at any of them, but it’s fun to noodle around on something that doesn’t sound like it’s erupting from the bowels of the beast.

Music-wise, what was happening for you before Bloodcrusher?

Oh man, I haven’t really stopped recording since I got my first 4 track in 2001, so there’s been a lot. Nothing really gained much traction or attention, but I’ve always just liked the process of creating a song that I can personally enjoy.  Started out drumming in a few death metal bands, but I quickly began recording stuff by myself.  I had a few black metal projects for a while, floated around making acoustic bullshit for a bit and then gravitated right back to the stuff that makes me feel whole and alive… that big chugalug, the undeniable brutality, the grinds, the slams, the darkness.

I understand you are a chef?  and a Father of 3?  What are you, like, busy or something?  Could you share a little about your kids?  Ages?  Hobbies?  What they think of dad growling around the house?

I'm a catering chef and baker.  It kind of varies from week to week.  Either boredom or ulcer-inducing stress, with very little in between.  But I like it a lot.  I have a lot of freedom with my work, and I’ve always loved working with food.

And yeah, I’ve got 3 hellspawn. 19, 13 and 8 years old.  It’s absolutely insane to think about it.  I really don’t feel like I’m pushing 40, time flies.  But they are the greatest, so much cooler than I will ever be.  They’re all pretty into art and music, and it makes me so proud any time they show me a drawing or play me some music they’ve been working on.

What can you say about your "gore compilation" videos on instagram?

I’m a sucker for ridiculous death scenes in movies, and I got tired of posting the same old shit over and over.  So, I just started digging for the gnarliest stuff I could find.

Would you say you went the one-man-band route due to being so busy?  Would you enjoy a full band if it was simple?

I think most of it has to do with the ease of creation when working by myself.  I don’t have to compromise and I don’t have to wait.  I am, admittedly, a pretty impatient dude.  When I sit down to record a song, I usually don’t stop until I feel like it’s done.  From drums to vocals, I really try to finish what I start while I still have that spark of creativity.  This can be a day or a week, but once I start focusing on a new track, I can’t really feel satisfied until it’s done.

I love the idea of getting a band together, but it’s just difficult to fit into my weird ass schedule.

More Messmer The Impaler please!  Speaking of side projects, will we ever hear a black metal focused project from you?

Messmer the Impaler will definitely be coming out with more stuff.  I’m incredibly stoked on that project.

Funny you say that, it’s almost 20 years since an old black metal release, and I’ve been seriously considering doing some new tracks for that project. We’ll see.

How do the features and collabs come to fruition?

Luck mostly, I think.  I’m incredibly humbled to have been able to work with the folks that I have. But it’s just been a result of me reaching out, and them being stoked enough on the material to want to hop on board.  It’s absolutely insane to me that I’ve been able to feature some of the vocalists that I have.  Like I said, I am incredibly humbled and grateful.

Towards the end of your interview on The Heavy Metal Sitdown, you used a phrase that resonated with me.  I believe you were being asked about your future Bloodcrusher plans, you said you planned to "just keep fartin' stuff out."  Well, please fucking do!  We love it Dave!

Oh yeah.  This is my therapy, this is my fun.  I’m just going to keep recording stuff and throwing it out there.  I’ve already got A LOT ready for this year.

Massive respect to everyone who has shown their support.

Huge thanks to Dave for the interview!!!!

--Salvaged Flesh--

Salvaged Flesh blessed us with this masterful EP last year.  It also came with a bit of an announcement.  At the bottom of the bandcamp page is this :

The final release for Salvaged Flesh. 6 more tracks of grooving early 2000's slam worship.

In a way this is sad but in a way it is something I wish a lot of bands/projects would do.  Too many times, our favorite bands pump out music until their hearts aren't in it anymore.  If this is Salvaged Flesh's attempt to "go out on top" or "quit while you're ahead", well sir, mission accomplished.

To say this leaves me wanting more from this style of SF is an understatement.  This managed to have that 2000s slam feel that it was going for while still remaining original in its own style.  Dull, tinny snare (perfect tone) with the fuzzed-out slam riffs, nasty vocals, and heavy heavy grooves all keep this in my rotation.

One release that also cannot go unmentioned is an EP that feels like it is a prequel to this one, and well worth a listen, is Chopped and Disposed.  Also released last year by Salvaged Flesh.  Also fire.

Around the time of that release, we featured a quick interview, which I now include below:

*****SALVAGED FLESH INTERVIEW FROM FEB. 24TH 2024*****

Salvaged Flesh is the brain-child of Floridian Bryce Nielsen.  Thank you for sitting down to answer a few questions!

"Cerebral Incubation/Artery Eruption mid 2000's slam worship. With this release, I am abandoning the goregrind sound wit this project. This style of slam will continue on future releases." - Salvaged Flesh

CAN YOU START BY STATING YOUR NAME AND AGE?

Bryce Nielsen and I’m 25 years old. Some people might know me as Brihk (the name I used under a lot of my projects).

HOW DID THE BAND START?  IT SEEMS LIKE WE ARE IN AN ERA OF MANY ONE-MAN-SLAM-BANDS BEING BORN.   I PERSONALLY LOVE THIS!  WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON IT?

Salvaged Flesh was originally a goregrind project. I did a demo that I released on my little tape label Moldy Mellon Cassettes and had an EP that I don’t think I ever released publicly. But that was like my 5th goregrind project and I haven’t had a proper slam project in about 2 years so I decided to start going more that direction and sound.

My first 1 man project I had was a slam project called Lordosis Scoliosis. Don’t bother looking it up it was pretty shitty but everyone’s got to start somewhere I guess hahahaha. I’ve always been a big fan of slam and brutal death metal, since even before I got into goregrind and gorenoise, so I just figured it was long overdue for me to have a slam project again hahaha

ONE OF MY FAVORITE ASPECTS OF THE EP IS THE FUZZED OUT BEEFY GUITAR TONE AND THE TIN CAN LIKE SNARE.  DOES A LOT OF THOUGHT GO INTO THESE WHEN RECORDING?

Oh yeah I’d go as far as to say I put more thoughts into the tones than really any other aspect of the recordings. I wanted to do my best to emulate that specific 2000s tone and production.

I'M LOVING THE LOGO AND THE ARTWORK!  WHO DID THOSE?

The logo was done by my buddy Corey and the artwork was done by Joey Cashman of Goremonger

CHOPPED AND DISPOSED (LISTEN HERE) FEELS LIKE A COMPLETE PROJECT WITH A HEAVINESS AND GROOVE TO IT THAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN!  ARE YOU PLEASED WITH HOW IT TURNED OUT AND PEOPLES REACTION?

Thank you I appreciate that! And Oh yeah I’m most definitely stoked with how it turned out. It’s always a good feeling when something ends up sounding exactly how it first pictured it in my head.

BEEN IN ANY BANDS PREVIOUS TO THIS ONE?

Yeah I play bass in a death metal called Blunt Force Trauma. And no not the Japanese one hahahaha. I also have had a handful of goregrind and gorenoise projects which can be checked out on the Acrid Infestation YouTube channel, cause it’s too much to name them all here hahahaha.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME "SALVAGED FLESH"?

I honestly don’t remember. My guess is I was stoned and someone said those words in a movie and I thought that would sound cool as a band name. That’s usually how I come up with a name hahahahaha.

ANY PLANS FOR PLAYING SHOWS IN THE FUTURE?

For now it’s just going to be an online project, but anything is possible.

ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO OUR READERS OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SAY AT ALL?

Thank you to anyone who checked out the EP and a big thank you to Cerebral Reviewment for having me do this interview!!
