Cerebral Effusion - Interview 2025

Cerebral Effusion are beyond legendary and it's surreal that I am even writing this.  Almost 30 years into their career and every release is in the pocket of brutality.  Seriously, a lot of people's opinion of a pure BDM sound was built of of this Cerebral Effusion releases.  Enjoy this quick little catch-up with the band.

CEREBRALREVEIWMENT - Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions! For any readers that don’t know Cerebral Effusion, could you tell the story of how everything got started and the history of the band?

CEREBRAL EFFUSION - First of all, brutal greetings. The story begins around 1997, when a band called DEMORIOR, known for playing a dark and strident form of death metal with shrieking and powerful vocals, decided to change their musical direction. After a series of lineup adjustments and a name change, CEREBRAL EFFUSION was born. The band began playing a more brutal and forceful style of death metal, with deeper, more guttural vocals and heavier, lower-tuned instrumentation.

A long and intense period of work followed, leading up to the studio recording around 1998/99 of their first MCD, "Immortal Cemetery". From that point on, the band’s journey truly began — a journey filled with countless experiences and situations worthy of a book, though it's difficult to sum them all up here. The band has released six works to date — and there's still more to come

Ok so nearly 30 years in!!  how is the scene where you guys live? Lots of bands?

Yes, you're right, 30 years is a long time—more than enough to keep the band together, keep playing festivals, and keep crafting symphonies and lyrics full of raw.—that's THE MAXIMUM. Of course, music is the force that lifts us, activates us, and really pushes each of us forward in life

Currently, like almost everything, the scene has declined a lot. Other musical genres have started to take the spotlight, and that's been noticeable here. There used to be much more metal around — more bands from punk, heavy, thrash, even death, and several brutal or raw-sounding bands. Nowadays, much of that has been lost.

Is Cerebral working on new material currently?

As for new material, we're in the process of forging and refining ideas, as much as time and circumstances allow. As we've mentioned, we have jobs and families outside of music, and while that's true, music is still part of our life choices. So we hope to release something in the future and play some gigs too.

Can you name 3 albums that you absolutely love?

There are a lot of killer albums that marked a turning point.

Cranial Impalement by Disgorge

Masticate to Dominate by Gorgasm

Vomit Forth Intestinal Excrement by Enmity

Thank you for the quick interview!!!

Any last word for your fans or our readers?

Respiratory Secretion - Interview 2025

Whether you are a young BDM fan who hates on what you don't understand, or an old head who hates pretty much everything, you may have been aware of the recent daze/nse/brutaldeath/hardcore/brutalhardcore/revival drama shit.  Well, I'm here to say who fucking cares, if you like the music, hit play!  I don't see anything wrong with occasional cross-over attempts and the inclusion of young AND old people in local scenes.  Haters will always be there, but let's not give them too much merit. rant over.....

New Standard Elite just keeps signing young "brutal slamming blasting grinding pinging- whatever we are calling it" bands.  I urge you to give them all an equal listen.  More than that, I urge you to get familiar with Respiratory Secretion.  Hit play on their new single below and let that shit rip you apart as you read the interview!

CEREBRALREVIEWMENT - Who are you?  What is your role in Respiratory Secretion?

WILL - My name’s Will, I do all the toilet noises and such for Respiratory.

Can you tell us everyone in the band and their ages?

I’m 19 which makes me the youngest in the band, Jordan our guitarist is 20, Danny our bassist is 22, and Joey our drummer is 22 as well

How did Respiratory Secretion form, and how was the name chosen?

Respiratory was formed in mid 2023 by Jordan and our old bassist/vocalist as kind of a side project. It was actually Jordan’s wife who came up with the band name. From what I’ve been told they were trying to brainstorm names for a while, she suggested Respiratory Secretion, and they knew right away that was the one

Jordan's wife!  That's awesome!  Is he the only one married? Can you share a little about the bands members personal lives; jobs, school, families?

Yeah Jordan’s the only one of us that’s married haha. None of us are in school, just working and grinding for the band really. I do landscaping, Joey works as a valet, Danny is kinda like a beer delivery man pretty much, and Jordan does welding and mechanic stuff.

I fell in love with "Post Necromantic Sadomasochistic Satisfaction" when it was released!  What was the writing process like back then and what have you guys learned to help you evolve?

WILL - (Since I wasn’t in the band for post necromantic I had Jordan answer this one)

JORDAN - “Before we were kind of writing riffs on our own and it was more close minded because it was a two piece, whereas now we have a more full group with different members and a lot more bdm knowledge so we get a lot more ideas from different directions.

Your newest single, "Forced Hysterectomy" sounds like a step up.  All instruments are cooking something delicious, and I love the production!  Congrats on the New Standard Elite signing!  How did that door open up for you guys?

Thank you thank you we appreciate the kind words, we’re pretty happy with how it came out. Shoutout to Sam from roots of deception (Infernal Crypt) for recording, mixing, and mastering us, he did an amazing job. For our NSE singing we owe a huge thanks to Marc from Desecation.

Back in April I’d gone out on the spring break bludgeoning tour with Roots of Deception, Scasm, and Desecation where I was filling in on vocals for Roots.

Will rehearsing for tour with Roots Of Deception

I met Marc on that tour and since they’re already on NSE, I hit him up once our demo was recorded trying to figure out how to go about it, he helped get a good word in for us and got me in contact, then it just went from there

Will, do you write the lyrics?  you are a sick maniac!  Where do you get influences from?

Since I wasn’t in the band yet at the time, our old vocalist wrote all the lyrics for post necromantic. On the new demo coming out soon I wrote almost all the lyrics with Jordan helping write the lyrics for forced hysterectomy

My main influences for writing lyrics are probably Gorgasm and Devourment, I’ve spent lots of time reading lyrics and picking up lots of disgusting vocabulary haha. Also lots of horror movies.

Oh man sorry I keep doing that!  I truly had not realized the member switch had happened!  So the vocals on "Forced Hysterectomy" are you?  Like I said, that track already rips and I can't wait for more!

All good haha. Yeah the vocals on forced hysterectomy are me, this demo will be my first release with Respiratory

Ok, so we know that the new single comes off of your upcoming demo, to be released by NSE.  We also know that the date for that release is not decided yet.  So here is what I am wondering:  How many more songs will be on it?  What will the artwork be like?  Will it have a title other than "Demo"?  ANYTHING you guys can tell us about it?!?!?!

There will be three songs in total on the demo including Forced Hysterectomy. The cover for the demo will just be what you saw on the YouTube advanced track and it’ll just be Demo 2025. Simple y’know!

Can you tell us 3 albums that really inspire you, in anyway?

3 albums that inspire me are

Masticate to Dominate by Gorgasm

Instruments of Torture by Brodequin

Impulsive Psychopathic Acts by Cerebral Effusion

Well that's it for now Will!  Thank you so much for doing this and I look forward to more tunes and I'm betting we will talk again in the future!!  Farewell, anything you'd like to say to fans/readers?

Thank YOU for doing this, we greatly appreciate it! For anyone reading thank you if you support us and keep your eyes peeled for our demo cd’s coming soon!

Bubba interview 2025

Death Metal, Melodic Brutal Slam, Blackened Grinding Slamwich.

The sound of Bubba cannot be nailed down.  One thing is for sure, in the days of cookie-cutter, copy-cat, over-saturated and stagnant Slam releases, bands like this are a much overdue refreshing palate cleanser.  Bubba's full length, "Cogwheels Of The Pious Forge" will hit you with a wall of nostalgic, yet somehow brand new, creative song-writing that just may remind you why you came to extreme music in the first place.  Bravo boys, and please do keep it coming!

CEREBRAL REVIEWMENT -   Lets start with who we are talking to and what you do in the band? Who are all members of the band, and how old are you guys?

JAKE PIKLOR (Guitarist) -     Hey, this is Jake from Bubba, I play guitar in the band. Our lineup consists of Jake Piklor (Me), Nico Lavere on vocals, Justin Staska on drums, and we just recruited a new bassist Jacob Bond.

Can you tell us the history of the band and how this all started?

Bubba started as a just-for-fun project to jam out and write songs that we thought were cool and weird. We originally wanted to start with the approach of black metal-ish brutal death metal but it evolved into doing what felt right and not being afraid to experiment. As we were creating these tracks we decided to take it as a serious project and refine our sound.

I've seen you guys labeled as "blasting melodic brutal death", "blackened brutal death" and "grinding slam".  How do you describe Bubba's sound?

Honestly, I couldn't put an exact label on Bubba. The best way I could describe it is by taking what we find inspiring in all the types of music we love and applying it to a death metal-styled concept.

The full length is just fucking bonkers.  So original and refreshing.  I have to assume you guys have crazy diverse taste in music?  What are you guys into, and what bands or artist would you call influences?

We all kinda listen to a little bit of everything. Many different bands and artists inspired the writing behind the album and no band in particular takes the cake on the direct influence but it's a little bit of everything we like. To name a few, I'd say: Iron Maiden, Despondency, Broken Torso, Severed Remains, Vomit Remnants, Cerebral Effusion, and Guttural Secrete.

How did the name Bubba come about?

The name Bubba came from us having a nickname for each other 'Bubba' and just ran with it.

What are the lyrics like, do you guys stick to a certain theme?

We do stick to a certain theme, the whole idea behind the album was that in hard times people seek guidance, meaning, and support in many forms like religion. People look to religion to find comfort in their darkest times but then drift away as life becomes more convenient and forget about what helped them get there.

Who did the artwork for Cogwheels?

Our Vocalist Nico found and edited an open-access historical painting to encapsulate the imagery of our album.

Can you give us your take on the current death metal scene in your area?

There aren't many death metal bands around us at all, it mainly consists of hardcore and deathcore bands. The 2 in the scene that stick out the most are Implosive Disgorgence and Hacksaw.

Can you suggest any upcoming bands for us to check out?

A few upcoming bands to check out are: Impalement from California, they make some super sick brutal death metal. Vacant Moley is a super sick project our brother Ed from Bloodtied/Dripping has been working on a full-length of mind-bending insane brutal death metal that's super unique. Another sick band to check out is New York Style brutal death metal band, Hacksaw from South Florida. Me and Justin just hopped on board this band and it's been awesome.

Any future plans for more new music, shows, merch, or anything coming up you could share?

As of right now, we are working on putting together some shows and getting out there more. There is going to be merch in the near future. In regards to the music, our other band Bloodtied is wrapping up writing our debut LP and will hopefully be getting it recorded soon. Along with that, we have a side project coming up soon called Nidification which is going to be brutal death metal in the realm of Putridity and Goretrade. In regards to Bubba, we are writing more music to potentially release in the late future.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SAY?

Thank you very much for reaching out to us and wanting to interview us! We very much appreciate all the support and feedback we are receiving from everyone!
