Pyorrhea - Interview/Demo Review 2025

This demo from Pyorrhea caught me off-guard and I cannot turn it off.  If you like fast paced hyper slamming brutal death than look no further.  My only gripe is we only get two tracks!  More music is in the works, thankfully.  Read the interview below to learn more!

Thank you for taking some time to answer some questions!!!!  I’m in love with the demo that recently dropped, so I’m pumped to learn more!

The thanks goes to you my friend for taking the time to ask some questions! Your enthusiasm about my music means a lot!

Is Pyorrhea a one man band?  I think it is, for now right?  What is your name and age?

Yes, Pyorrhea is currently a one man operation with a drummer lined up for the next release. I'm Nick and I am 20 years old.

How long have you been playing music?  What instruments can you play?  What is your main instrument?

I started my journey with music back in middle school when I picked up the guitar, so I've been playing for about 6-7 years at this point. My strong suit is definitely the guitar, but I can play a little piano and bass as well.

How did you pick the name Pyorrhea?  And how do you say it?  Pee-or-eee-yah?  Pie-ory- yah?

The name Pyorrhea came from the Pustulated song "Emanation of Pyorrheal Discharge" off of their Pathognomonic Purulency EP. I pronounce it Pie-ory-yah.

That's fucking awesome because I was going to say I definitely hear some Pustulated influence!  Which brings me to these vocals!  Instantly what drew me into the demo.  How long have you been practicing vocals?

I've only been at vocals for a little over 6 months if my memory serves me right. The demo is all inhaled vocals; just a whole lot of sucking air in and contorting my mouth and tongue till I get some cool sounds.

Can you talk a little more about who/what influences you musically?

In my eyes Pyorrhea falls somewhere between Pustulated and Orchidectomy. I was (and still am) heavily jamming Orchidectomy's 2008 album A Prelate's Attrition while writing the demo. I definitely want to lean more into the Orchidectomy style/sound with the new tracks for the EP, but the Pustulated influence will be sticking around for sure.

Okay so you have a drummer lined up for the next release.  What can you tell us about that release?

For the next release I'm shooting for a 5 song EP featuring the 2 demo tracks and 3 new ones. I also am tossing around the idea of throwing a cover song on there as well. If I can pull it off I'd love to cover Shomer Shabbos off of Orchidectomy's 2008 demo. I'd give a release date but I just have no idea. I have some other releases to wrap up before getting cracking on the EP. Once those are out of the way it's full steam ahead though. I'll do my best to get it out there and in everyone's ears as soon as I can.

Outside of music, what are some other things you enjoy doing?

Outside of music I really enjoy hiking and reading. I recently moved, giving me a whole bunch of new trails to wander around and I have been having a blast doing so. In regards to reading I've been on a huge Stephen King binge as of late. I've been working my way through his Dark Tower book series and thoroughly enjoying it.

Well Nick, thanks so much, I really am so excited to keep jamming this demo and I will be waiting for whatever is next!!  Any last words?
I'd like to give my thanks to all of my friends and homies out there. Their support and encouragement is the fuel that powers the music and keeps me going. I especially want to express my gratitude to my good friend Chris, who I have a band with called Idolomantis, and my good friend Simon (Excruciations, Convulsed, Defaced, Seethe, Cockgrinder...). Love and appreciate the fuck outta those guys. They’ve played a huge part in getting me to where I’m at currently with my music. Finally I'd like to extend my thanks to you for this opportunity! It was fun! I've never been interviewed before so fingers crossed I did alright :)
