How is it going?!
Everything is going quite smoothly and naturally, we are currently preparing our first full-length release, I can't share all the details yet, so stay tuned!
What are your names and ages and what do you each do in sectarian defacement?
The Frontman name is Nazar, he is 24, Bassist name is Anton, he just turned 18 this summer and our Drummer name is Viktor, he's 19. In addition to playing instruments, we also do the mixing and mastering ourselves, Anton taking on most of the work, meanwhile, Nazar takes over songwriting and most of the management, and Viktor... All he need to do, is only play drums, and this is no less important than anything else! :)
What can you say about Grave Island Records and how did you start working with them?
So, this label runs by talented musician, he also play bass in Relics of Humanity and his name is Pavel Lapkouski. We have a lot of mutual friends from my homeland, but we didn't know each other personally, until we released first EP, and then Pavel texted us first with an offer to release the next album on his label, he also cover a huge part of the recording costs, we are so thankful to him! What does Sectarian Defacement mean? How did you come up with the name?
Ahahaha, that's crazy, because originally I wanted to name this band just "Sectarian", but unfortunately this name was already used by another band with some their releases, so I just add "Defacement" just because it sounds cool :)
I'm not sure that there is any meaning behind it...
The process is pretty fast, fun and smooth, we write our ideas in Guitar Pro and just share it between us, so I can write a song within couple of days.
What are some of your influences?
Oh man, we were influenced by Brutal/Death metal and Gore/Grind scene, we love bands like: Devourment, Dahmer, Brodequin, Ahumado Granujo, Deeds of Flesh, Carcass, Cryptopsy, Defeated Sanity, Mephitic Corpse and more more others bands.
Thank you for kind words! It was officially released on our mate's label Deepswarming Bloodmagik on may 24 2025
What is the scene like around you guys? I have never been to Kyiv, but it is fairly large correct? Are things safe around you? I feel stupid asking, and I hate that the wars are ongoing.
Currently, in my opinion, we have the similar situation as in U.S. I mean the most popular genres are Hardcore and Beatdown, we have had a lot of bands come out in the last couple years. I have nothing against these genres, I can listen to them sometimes, but I don't like it when they start copying and pretending like they playing slam, they call it slam, but in fact they continue to play some beatdown and just hyping on genre they are not...
Now in Kyiv the biggest threat is from ballistics and drones, you never know when it might hit your house... But we hold on and want to fight back against the moscovia aggressors
Will you be playing live shows soon??
Well, since Viktor joined the band, he said that he didn't really like live performances, so we came to a compromise that we would perform a few times a year, so, probably, the next live show will be in 2026... But, maybe we will perform this year too, will see.
Wow! We are really glad and appreciate that people enjoyed our music, it motivates us to make more and better new songs!
I just want to say thank you and thank to all of our listeners and fans of heavy underground music, please don't stop supporting in any possible ways all of the artists of worldwide underground scene, and stay strong and brutal as hell!
With all respect and love, Nazar, the frontman of Sectarian Defacement.
Thank you guys!!
